Josiah's birthday happened to fall on the Saturday that we were driving back to Michigan from California so we decided to stop and do something fun. During our drive on the 70 through the beautiful Rocky Mountains, we stopped at Idaho Springs and went on a gold mine tour. After the tour they showed us how to pan for gold and directed us to a nearby stream. The kids loved it...especially Josiah and Nathan! I was surprised when, after working at it for about 40 minutes, Nathan actually found a tiny gold nugget!
The green is actually copper that has turned color due to exposure to the air.
