Nathan and I just returned from California where we attended a missions conference at First Baptist Church of Big Bear Valley. What an encouraging weekend! There still are some gospel-centered, Bible-teaching, mission-minded churches out there. =)
We were asked to represent the Friends of Israel Gospel Ministry and what we will be doing as missionaries in Los Angeles. There were at least ten other missionaries or ministry representatives present, all sharing with the congregation about their particular ministry. It was very encouraging to hear all the different ways that God is working in each of these ministries as they work to share His love and the message of salvation through Jesus Christ. We were so blessed as we heard from those here in the states and around the world who are making Christ known to Native Americans, children, prison inmates, and students on campus... to name a few. Others have devoted their lives to helping care for orphans and introduce them to Jesus Christ. And still others are committed to Bible translation. One woman in particular spent over 40 years in Papua New Guinea working on translating God's Word into the Kunimaipa language!
One thing that really encouraged and impacted us during the conference, is that God is doing a great work in the world today, drawing the lost to Himself. He has invited each of us to be a part of it. What a beautiful thing it is to see so many people working in different ways, in different parts of the world, to minister to people of different languages, ages, intellects, colors and customs... all united by the goal of bringing the message of salvation. So even though we all serve our Savior in different ways, in the end, it's not about us....it's all about Him!
